Storm Clean-Up: Drop Site Establishes, Curb-side Pick-up
Pierre, S.D. -To accommodate downed trees and branches from last night’s storm, the City of Pierre has established several drop sites and a curb-side pick-up program.
DROP SITESPierre residents can take downed trees and branches to any of the following sites.• City Baler Facility –East Park Street• Fire Station 3 –North Poplar Avenue near Jefferson Elementary School• Fire Station 4 –North Pierce Street near the Carriage House Apartments• Hillsview Golf Course Parking Lot• Pierre Sports Complex on South Buchanan Street• Steamboat Park Parking Lot on South Poplar Avenue
CURB-SIDE PICK-UPThose who don’t have the ability to transfer downed trees and branches to one of the established drop sites should leave their debris at the curb. City crews will work to remove curb-side debris within seven days.
OTHER DEBRISOther debris, such as fences and metal products, should be taken to the city baling facility on East Park Street.
Additionally, the City has cancelled outdoor summer recreation programming and closed several public facilities until further notice. The closed public facilities are listed below.• All city parks and sports fields• The outdoor public pool• Outdoor summer recreation programming• Hillsview Golf Course
Mayor Laurie Gill toured the community this morning to assess the damage.“We saw damage to both public and private property. There are a lot of downed trees, but we are lucky in that we have no reports of major injuries,” said Gill. “By daybreak, many community members were already out cleaning up their property. The recovery process is well on its way.”
