PIERRE, S.D. –The Pierre City Commission will host two finalists for the Pierre City Administrator job this week. They are Keith Senger of Pierre and Anthony Tolstedt of Douglas, Wyoming. Current City Administrator, Leon Schochenmaier, will retire from the position in June.
Senger is currently a Division Director for the South Dakota Bureau of Finance and Management in Pierre. Tolstedt serves as a City Administrator in Douglas, Wyoming. Both received tours of Pierre Sunday. The commission will hold face-to-face interviews with both on Monday.
The Commission expects to interview a third finalist later in May.
“Our goal is to have a new city administrator selected and in place in June,” said Mayor Laurie Gill. “That will give our outgoing administrator an opportunity to transition the new administrator into the role.”
Under general administrative and policy direction from the City Commission, Pierre’s City Administrator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all activities of city government. The administrator directs approximately 150 employees in the areas of Utilities, Engineering, Planning, Solid Waste, Building Services, Airport, Human Resources, Library, Park and Recreation, Business Office, Police, and Fire. Pierre is governed by a mayor and four commission members, all elected at large, for three year overlapping terms.
