Honeywell Named City Administrator
Kristi Honeywell is Pierre’s new City Administrator.
Tonight, the Pierre City Commission approved the contract to bring Honeywell on board. Honeywell will begin her duties with the City on August 14. She replaces Leon Schochenmaier who retired June 30.
“I am very excited to have Kristi join our team,” said Mayor Steve Harding. “She has a wealth of engineering, construction and management experience. I am confident she will serve our city and its employees very well.”
Honeywell currently serves as the State Engineer and Deputy Commissioner for the South Dakota Bureau of Administration. In that role, she has oversight of construction and repairs of all state-owned buildings, oversees construction services and the budget for those efforts, manages an engineering team, and oversees the Bureau’s central service’s division. Prior to her current position, Honeywell was an engineer with the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“Because of my current work, I am fortunate to already have a relationship with a number of city employees,” said Honeywell. “I know they will help me get acclimated quickly and help make the transition as smooth as possible for everyone involved.”
Honeywell has lived in Pierre for nearly 25 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a minor in Math from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Missouri. Honeywell is a Licensed Professional Engineer, a graduate of the South Dakota State Government Leadership Excellence Program, and a member of the Central South Dakota Engineering Society.
Brad Palmer, City Utilities Director, will continue serving as the interim City Administrator until Honeywell starts.
Under general administrative and policy direction from the City Commission, Pierre’s City Administrator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all activities of city government.
