Pierre-area senior citizens can kick off the new year by staying active through Pierre Recreation Department’s Seasoned Citizen Program.
Programming starts Monday and includes Zumba, Linedance, Tai Chi and Help with Electronic Devices. The classes run through the end of March, are open to all senior citizens and are free to members of the Pierre Area Senior Center.
Recreation Superintendent Mindy Cheap says that the program is being strengthened this season through a new partnership with the Pierre Area Senior Center.
“We are really interested in expanding access of our programs to more senior citizens,” said Cheap. “The Senior Center has agreed to let us use some of their space to make our programs more accessible, and in return, their members can access the programs for free.”
People who aren’t members of the Senior Center can also participate for a fee.
Cheap is also introducing a new program this year with Zumba Gold.
“Zumba Gold is designed specifically for seniors who are interested in enhancing balance, range of motion and coordination,” said Cheap. “The class features easy-to-follow choreography that’s set to international rhythms.”
