Commissioner Vona Johnson

In July 2017, Vona Johnson was appointed to the Pierre City Commission to fulfill the unexpired term vacated by Commissioner Steve Harding.

Johnson is a holistic health coach helping people make better health and lifestyle choices.

Before she began helping people improve their lives as a health coach, Johnson helped provide quality affordable housing throughout South Dakota. Johnson spent more than 30 years at the South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA).  In January 2017, she retired from SDHDA as the Director of Rental Housing Management where she oversaw the asset management and compliance of approximately 12,000 affordable rental housing apartment units.  Her accomplishments at SDHDA include developing and overseeing the ongoing administration of the Housing Tax Credit and HOME Programs and helping to create the Statewide Homeless Consortium.

Johnson grew up in the Pierre area and received a Business Management Degree from Black Hills State University in 1984 and her Health Coach Certification from HCI in 2016. She and her husband Steve have three grown children and four grandchildren.  She loves to read, cook, travel, listen to music, and spend time with her family and friends.
