At the Dec. 30 Pierre City Commission meeting, the community got its first look at street improvements planned for 2025 when city staff made a request to bid the effort.
“If bids come in favorably, we plan to pave more than 40 blocks of city street,” said Nick Waters, City Engineer. “If bids come in higher than the engineer’s estimate, we’ll need to prioritize the projects we have mapped out for this year.”
Included in the planned work is the stretch of Broadway Avenue between Euclid and Jefferson, a handful of blocks that include underground utility work, and many short runs throughout the community.
Waters added that there will be no shortage of street construction work in 2025.
“The South Dakota Dept. of Transportation (SDDOT) will start rebuilding Euclid Avenue this spring. That’s a main thoroughfare; the work will be very visible to the traveling public.”
Although the SDDOT is leading the Euclid reconstruction project, the City of Pierre is replacing and updating utilities located under Euclid in conjunction with DOT’s project.
Bids for the paving contract are due Jan. 23.
