[ARCHIVED] Rawlins Library: April Programming

EASTER LIBRARY LOGO

In April, there are lots of learning opportunities at Rawlins Library including cybersecurity for parents, personal finance, and homebuying programs. Plus, an Easter Egg hunt, Bingo for books, and more fun activities for the kids!

 

BOOK CLUBS

Cozy Book Club

Tuesday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m.

This interactive large-print book club is open to the public. In April, the cozy mystery is Murder at Castle Morse by Leen Clover. Coffee and cookies will be served.

ADULT BOOK CLUB (TUESDAYS)

April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 6:30 p.m.

This month, the club will read The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve. To join this club, designed exclusively for those 18 years or older, email rawlinslibrary@ci.pierre.sd.us, call 605.773.7421, or sign up in person. Water and coffee are provided.  

FOR THE THRILL OF IT BOOK CLUB 

Sunday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m.

The book of the month is No One Can Know by Kate Marshall. Register for this thriller genre-reading book club by visiting the front desk at the library or calling 605.773.7421. Must be 18 or older.

SUPER SENIOR DAY

Tuesday, April 1

Senior citizens can enjoy refreshments, up to ten pages of free printing and up to five pages of free faxing.  

RIDES FOR READERS (Tuesdays during inclement weather)

April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, All Day

Senior citizens living in Pierre and Fort Pierre can get a free ride to the library every Tuesday through April. To reserve your ride, at least 24 hours in advance, call River Cities Transit at 605.945.2360.

CROCHET WITH HELEN (Mondays & Tuesdays)

April 1, 7, and 8 at 12 p.m.  

Join Helen, a local, experienced crocheter, to improve your crocheting skills and meet others who enjoy the same craft. All materials are provided. 

AUTHOR TALK: WHAT WAKES HER IN THE NIGHT

Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m.

What Wakes Her in the Night authors Tracy Rittmueller, Susan Thurston, and Karen Herseth Wee, collectively known as “Northfield Women Poets,” will discuss their work and answer questions.

POETRY OPEN MIC

Sunday, April 6, 2 p.m.

In honor of National Poetry month, Rawlins Library is hosting an open mic poetry event. Join in support of local poets or participate in the event yourself! 

CYBERSECURITY FOR PARENTS

Wednesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.  

Learn about staying safe online and keeping your kids safe too with Detective Kaitlin Cummings from the Pierre Police Department.

ADULTING 101: PERSONAL FINANCE

Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m.

Lacey Walz, City of Pierre Finance Officer, will share the basics of personal finance and budgeting.

WRITERS CLUB: SESSION 3 DISCUSSION AND WORKSHOP  

Thursday, April 17, 6:30 p.m.

At this meeting, the club will discuss project research and then meet in small groups to work on projects. New adult members are welcome; you do not need a library card to participate. 

ADULTING 101: HOMEBUYING

Thursday, April 24 at 6 p.m.

Thomas Mareina with Consumer Credit Counseling will explain everything you need to know about purchasing a home.

 

YOUTH PROGRAMS

RAWLINS LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Registration is now open for the eight-week summer reading program. Participants enjoy their very own 4-day session, Monday through Thursday. That’s 4 days in a row (except for holidays) with friends, fun crafts, and stories! For more information visit the Summer Rec Activity Guide at CityofPierre.org.

TWEEN / TEEN CROCHET CLUB (Tuesdays)

April 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Tweens and teens can learn the basics of crochet during this weekly program. Crochet supplies will be provided. Participants are also welcome to bring their own crochet projects. This program is designed for kids ages 10 and up. Limit of 10 participants. Registration is requested. 

WEDNESDAY MORNING STORYTIME

April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m.

Parents, caregivers, and little ones will enjoy hearing fun stories, singing songs, and maybe the fan favorite, the parachute. 

CRAFTERNOON: "CAT IN THE HAT" MASK  

Monday, April 7, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Celebrate National Library Week with a fun Cat in the Hat Crafternoon! Dr. Seuss 

created this mischievous cat character 68 years ago. Since then, the book “Cat in the Hat” has sold more than 16 million copies. 

BINGO FOR BOOKS

Thursday, April 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Meet a friend or bring your parent/grandparent to the final “Bingo for Books” of the school year. Bingo winners select a free book and enjoy a free bag of popcorn after the program. This will be the last session of “Bingo for Books” for the school year. 

RAWLINS LIBRARY EASTER EGG HUNT  

Saturday, April 12, two sessions at 9:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.

Rawlins Library Easter Egg Hunt will feature Easter Bunny donut holes, an egg hunt, and a visit from the Easter Bunny. A backdrop will be provided for photos with the bunny. Choose from 2 sessions: 9:30am to 10:30am or 11:00am to 12:00pm. Registration requested.

FUN WITH LEGO CLUB 

Thursday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m.

Create your own unique LEGO design using Rawlins Library’s large collection of specialized bricks, minifigures, and more. Enjoy a free bag of popcorn after the program. 

SCHOOL'S OUT FREE PLAY WITH BATTLESHIP, LEGOS, AND MORE  

Monday, April 21 from 10:00am to 4:00pm in the SD Room

There’s no school on Monday, April 21, so spend some time at the Library’s School is Out Free Play program. This come-and-go program will feature LEGO bricks, Battleship, puppets, puppet theater, giant UNO, and more.
