Action Taken for Drainage Control and Sewer Maintenance

In separate action, the Pierre City Commission took steps to control water drainage in northeast Pierre and prevent sewer line failure in the central and southern parts of the community.

Drainage Control

The Pierre City Commission approved an $85,470 bid from Cemcast Pipe and Precast to provide drainage pipe to appropriately channel storm runoff between East Elizabeth Street and Landfill Road.

The city is developing a materials storage yard in that area to house and process street-building materials.

Cemcast was the only qualified bidder for the pipe. City staff will install the drainage line as time allows; further development will continue in the future.

Sewer Maintenance

At this week’s meeting, the commission approved a $34,500 contract with Mocon Pacific for the repair and lining of a stretch of sanitary sewer pipe under Euclid Avenue and a section of storm sewer under Fort Street.

“This lining process essentially provides us with a new pipe without requiring us to tear up a street,” said Nick Waters, City Engineer.

Waters added that the pipe deficiencies Mocon will correct with the lining process were identified through routine camera inspections in preparation for street projects. Mocon plans to begin the lining projects as soon as next week.
