PIERRE, SD – The City of Pierre is offering residential customers an opportunity to take advantage of a Free or Discounted Load Coupon at the Pierre Solid Waste Facility.
The coupon allows residents to dispose of one pickup load or similar-sized trailer load of waste up to 1,200 pounds at no cost. Loads exceeding 1,200 pounds will be charged a flat fee of $16.50 plus applicable sales tax.
The coupon must be presented before dumping at the Pierre Solid Waste Facility, located at 2800 E. Park Street (entrance on Lowell Street).
Important Details
- Valid for residential use only
- No business, commercial, government, or rental property waste
- No typical household garbage
- No electronic recycling, tires, vehicle batteries, oil, itemscontainingFreon, or other materials not normally accepted
- Expires November 30, 2026
Solid Waste Superintendent Val Keller encourages residents to take advantage of the program as they clean out garages, yards, and storage areas.
Recycling & Yard Waste Access
City recycling, tree, and yard waste bins are located behind the gate at the Solid Waste Facility.
City residential utility customers may access these bins at no cost using a city-issued access card. Residents can obtain a card by calling 605.773.7434. Those without an access card may access the bins for $3.75 per load.
Recycling bins accept:
- Aluminum
- Computer and office paper
- Corrugated cardboard
- Newspapers and magazines
- Plastics (#1 and #2)
- Tin
Additional electronic recycling is available for a fee. Usable paint and certain household and cleaning supplies in their original containers may be dropped off at no charge during normal operating hours.

Pierre Solid Waste Facility Hours:
Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
