[ARCHIVED] Summer Rec Guide Published

Summer Rec Guide Published

Pierre, S.D. – The City has rolled out its list of summer recreation activities. It features more than 30 programs for youth, as well as adult activities.

Programming starts June 6 and includes everything from pottery classes, to swimming, to safety town, to archery, to t-ball and golf among others. New to the line-up this year are Fun Fridays.

“In the past, summer youth programming hasn’t been offered on Fridays,” said Mindy Cheap, Recreation Superintendent. “This year we’ll have some unique events that we’ll rotate on Fridays throughout the summer.”

The Friday activities include fishing at Mickelson Pond where kids can learn about fishing safety and skills. There will be scavenger hunts at the Pierre Arboretum to help kids learn how to use a compass. And kids can learn how to build a mini pirate ship while they search for hidden treasures at the Pirate Parties.

Online program registration begins at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, April 25. Walk-in registration begins Tuesday, May 10. For registration details and a complete list of adult and youth program schedules, fees and age restrictions visit cityofpierre.org. Activity Guides are also available at City Hall and at the YMCA.

For additional information, contact Mindy Cheap at mindy.cheap@ci.pierre.sd.us, 773.7445 or stop by her office at the Pierre YMCA.

More than 400 kids participated in the City’s 2015 Summer Recreation Programming.
