[ARCHIVED] City Flushing Fire Hydrants

City Flushing Fire Hydrants

Pierre, S.D. –The City of Pierre will begin its annual fire hydrant testing and flushing this week. Hydrants are flushed annually to ensure flow levels are adequate for fire protection.

The testing will begin in Pierre’s northern most neighborhoods and will move around the community throughout the summer. As a result of the flushing, some water discoloration may be noticed in the area being tested. The water is safe to drink and will return to normal color. If the discoloration persists for more than 24 hours, contact the city of Pierre Water Department at 605.773.7448.
The city currently maintains more than 500 fire hydrants.
