PIERRE, S.D. – Weather permitting, Park Street between Garfield and Lowell Avenues will close next week for construction.
The street will close at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 20, and will remain closed through the first week in July while city crews replace the water main, repair the curb, rebuild the road and lay new asphalt.
Through traffic is encouraged to detour South on Garfield Avenue and use Sully Avenue as the connector to Lowell Avenue. Throughout the construction project, the city solid waste facility can be accessed by Wells Avenue or Lowell Avenue.
Park Street Reconstruction is part of the city’s annual street maintenance plan. During the 2016 construction season, the city expects to spend $1.6-million to resurface and rebuild 28 blocks of city streets. The City of Pierre maintains about 80 miles of streets.
