[ARCHIVED] Gas Leak: Evacuation Lifted

Gas Leak: Evacuation Lifted

Pierre, SD – The evacuation put in place earlier today near the intersection of East Church Street and Jefferson Avenue has been lifted. A two block perimeter in the area was established after a natural gas line was damaged during construction work.

Residents and patrons are now being allowed back into the Tower Apartment Buildings and Rawlins Municipal Library. The YMCA will remain closed until tomorrow. Traffic restrictions have also been lifted.

Montana Dakota Utilities was able to shut down the natural gas leak around 3:15 this afternoon. If you have any question about natural gas service, contact MDU at 605.224.0947.

Evacuations are a preventative measure routinely utilized during large gas leaks. There were no injuries associated with this event.
