Workforce Development Council to Finalize Recommendations
Pierre, SD – The Pierre / Fort Pierre Workforce Development Council will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25 at the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce to finalize Council recommendations.
The Council has been meeting since August 2015 to research and identify strategies to address the local workforce shortage. Final strategies will be specific to three areas –recruitment and retention, education and training, and housing.
“This group of mostly volunteers has been working for more than a year to determine the best ways to positively affect our workforce shortage,” said Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill. “The committees have considered many different tactics, and tomorrow we will learn which ones they believe are the best solutions for the Pierre / Fort Pierre area.”
Mayor Gill, in partnership with Fort Pierre Mayor Gloria Hanson, established the local workforce development council last year. It includes a cross-sector of about 30 government, quasi-government, and private industry stakeholders tasked with recommending solutions to our local workforce shortage. The council consists of three committees –education and training, housing, and recruitment and retention.
