PIERRE, S.D. –The Pierre City Commission will wrap up interviews for the City Administrator job today when it interviews Darcy Long. Mr. Long most recently served as the City Administrator in Amery, Wisconsin.
While in town, Long will also be introduced to the City’s administrative leadership team and a group of citizen stakeholders.
Long is the third finalist the City Commission has named in its process to replace current City Administrator Leon Schochenmaier. Schochenmaier will retire from the City in June after serving as City Administrator for more than a decade.
Keith Senger of Pierre and Anthony Tolstedt of Douglas, Wyoming interviewed for the position late last month.
Pierre Mayor Laurie Gill says that the Commission hopes to have Schochenmaier’s replacement named by early June.
Under general administrative and policy direction from the City Commission, Pierre’s City Administrator is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all activities of city government. The Administrator directs approximately 150 employees in the areas of Utilities, Engineering, Planning, Solid Waste, Building Services, Airport, Human Resources, Library, Park and Recreation, Business Office, Police, and Fire. Pierre is governed by a mayor and four commission members, all elected at large, for three year overlapping terms.
