[ARCHIVED] COMMISSION PASSES WATER RATE ORDINANCE

City Of Pierre South Dakota

Commission Passes Water Rate Ordinance

Tonight, the Pierre City Commission adopted a water rate increase to help pay for the voter-approved water treatment facility project the City will begin building in 2020.

The change increases water rates by an average of $4 per month, per customer. The actual increase will vary depending on individual water use.

“People who sprinkle a large lawn might see an increase larger than $4,” said Brad Palmer, City Utility Director. “However, people who, for whatever reason, use very little water during the month of July will experience a small increase.”

According to Twila Hight, City Finance Officer, the change becomes effective with the August billing.

This increase is part of the Water Treatment Facility project voters approved earlier this month.  To help finance the $37-million ultrafiltration facility, the commission will look to increase water rates incrementally over the next two years.
