Go Green and Clean: Spring Cleanup Begins
Pierre’s annual Go Green and Clean spring cleanup campaign got a jump start this week with several local groups taking advantage of the nice weather.
The organized effort was technically scheduled to start this weekend and run through early May.
“We had some go-getters who wanted to get out of the gates early,” said Farnsworth. “Their enthusiasm is fantastic!”
Those go-getters included the local SDSU Alumni organization, the Boys and Girls Club, and BankWest. Collectively, these volunteer groups spruced up chamber entrance area and welcome sign, Hipple and Griffin Parks, Hyde Stadium, Hollister Field and the Boys and Girls Club grounds.
According to Farnsworth, there’s lots more to come.
“Our community members are always so generous with their time and energy,” said Farnsworth. “For the next week or so, we have something happening almost every day of the week.”
Among scheduled projects are clean up of Capitol Creek Trail and litter removal from the downtown area and road ditches along arterial roads.
“We certainly have more opportunities if there are other individuals or groups looking for volunteer opportunities,” said Farnsworth.
If you haven’t yet signed up for a project and are interested in the effort, Farnsworth encourages you to give him a call at 605.773.7407.
The Go Green and Clean campaign is a civic pride effort designed to get the city spruced up for the summer season. Each year for the last nine, dozens of volunteers and volunteer groups have painted public facilities, cleaned up flower beds, cleared litter and otherwise helped make Pierre look its best.
