City Bids Airport Runway Project
At this week’s Pierre City Commission meeting, city leaders moved forward a plan to rehabilitate one of Pierre Regional Airport’s runways.
The commissioners approved a Request to Bid Runway 7-25. That’s the airport’s crosswind runway that is used as the airport’s secondary runway. The airstrip will receive a new asphalt surface, as well as new lighting and markings.
“This is a general maintenance project,” said Cameron Howard, Airport Manager. “It’s eligible for 100 percent federal funding.”
Those federal funds come through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). Pierre’s airport is eligible for a $1 million annual AIP stipend if the airport reaches 10,000 commercial enplanements or receives an enplanement waiver due to challenging circumstances.
Bid opening for the project is scheduled for July 8 with rehabilitation work beginning next year.
