Rawlins Municipal Library Promotes Digital Literacy Through Community Programs

City of Pierre News Posted on March 11, 2026

The Rawlins Municipal Library continues to expand opportunities for residents to build digital skills and access technology through community programs and educational events.

Libraries play an important role in promoting digital literacy. Many patrons lack access to technology or the computer skills needed to navigate an increasingly digital world. As technology continues to evolve, libraries help bridge this gap by offering programs that build confidence and practical technology skills.

One example is Scan Day, an event where community members can learn how to digitally scan photographs, documents, and other important materials. These items can then be preserved and shared with future generations.

“Events like Scan Day provide a hands-on opportunity for people to learn how to digitize personal and historical materials,” said Abby Edwardson, Library Director. “Participants not only preserve their memories but also gain valuable experience using digital tools.”

During Scan Day, patrons receive guidance on how to scan items, save digital files, and upload them online. The event provides a welcoming environment for individuals who may be unfamiliar with technology but want to learn.

Providing access to technology training benefits the entire community. Increased digital literacy helps support both educational opportunities and economic growth, while ensuring residents feel confident navigating online resources.

Programs like Scan Day align with the library’s mission to provide lifelong learning opportunities and equitable access to information and technology for all members of the community.

Residents interested in upcoming technology classes and library events can visit the Rawlins Municipal Library or learn more at rawlinslibrary.org.
