Pierre Community Dog Park

The Pierre Community Dog Park has partnered with the City of Pierre to construct a new Dog Park for the Pierre Community. The park will be located on City property on Sully Avenue, east of the City's Park Shop.

The group looked at a number of potential locations, weighing factors like site size, proximity to residential property, and availability of water, parking, shade, and restrooms. This location hit the mark on almost all the criteria. On July 9, 2019, the City Commission approved the location to be used to develop the Dog Park.

Now that the location was established, the group worked on the layout and design of the Park which includes a common area, a small dog area, and a large dog area.  The group is raising money to fund the park and add amenities like benches, restrooms, and a parking lot. The group received a grant from the SD Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources for $2,500 to purchase 19 Ponderosa Pine, Black Hills Spruce, and Colorado Green Spruce Trees for the Park. The trees will preserve the character of the neighborhood by providing park-like scenery, a sound barrier, and physical division. The trees are planted and doing well. Another funding source came from the Central Board of Realtors in October of 2022. The group applied and received a $5000 grant from the National Association of Realtors to help fund the installation of the fence.  Installation of the fence was completed in January of 2023 with other amenities to follow. The Dog park was opened to the public on January 31, 2023.
